NAIOP has developed a series of well-regarded courses that focus on various specialties within commercial real estate and has assembled a faculty of industry experts to lead course sessions and share real-world experiences.

NAIOP courses are based upon core competencies, which are specialized categories of applied skills and established industry practices, organized into the body of knowledge, that are essential to delivering financially successful projects.

By completing four eligible

NAVIGATING THE PERMITTING MAZE

Find out at this in-depth educational workshop (over the course of two half-days) where some of the real estate industry's foremost experts will provide a close look at the ins and outs of environmental review and permitting in Massachusetts. Instructors will introduce permitting basics, as well as more complex issues, such as MEPA, Article 80, Chapter 91 licensing, climate change resiliency, trends in transportation, the importance of community outreach, and more.

DETERMINING LEASING RISK IN A TENANT FINANCIAL STATEMENT

Students will learn the basics and how to use analytical tools to assess risk level in lease negotiation. What are Income/Expense Statements, Cash Flow Statements and Balance Sheets? How do GAAP and IFRS become game changers? How does FASB 13 play a part in real estate financial accounting? What are lenders evaluating when considering financing tenant improvements and approving leases? When should the landlord provide TI and other rent concessions? Where is the “risk” in the financials? We will identify commercial lease clauses that would be impacted by the tenant’s financials. You will be introduced to financial analytical ratios and then will have the chance to dissect a tenant’s corporate balance sheet for lease negotiations.
